Report: Some Panthers players are not happy with the team passing up interim head coach Steve Wilks
The Carolina Panthers decided to hire Frank Reich over interim head coach Steve Wilks and there are reportedly some players pissed off about them passing on Wilks.
According to Adam Beasley of PFN, players were lobbying to keep Wilks and have his Interim title removed.
“We ride behind Wilks,” linebacker Shaq Thompson told the team’s website in December. “He came in here, he’s a true alpha, he’s a true leader, and guys follow behind him. He’s done amazing. Look what we’ve been going through.”
I mean the Panthers were in playoff contention with one week to go, so I personally feel Wilks made a hell of a push. They finished 6-6 under Wilks after a rough start from Matt Rhule.
The Panthers also made a strange hiring of Frank Reich’s daughter a couple weeks before they hired her Dad.
I wonder if the NFL will investigate that situation. I know it is just speculation, but several black coaches are already filing for not being given real opportunities to coach. This could fall under the Brian Flores case.
