What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I always enjoyed watching American football and dreamed of playing. I saw some Australians punting over here and knew from there that was what I wanted to do.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
My favourite football moment is winning the Sun Belt championship in 2021. We worked so hard to finally win it and to win it at home was extra special.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
As a football player going forward I’d love to just continue my career anywhere that gives me an opportunity and continue to have fun.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
Calvin Johnson Jr because he was the main reason I got into American football and has always been my favourite player.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My parents inspire me as they have sacrificed so much for me to be where I am and I am so thankful for them.
What is your typical training routine?
Stretching, punting and lifting. I like to punt a lot on days that I punt and I generally hit a lot of punts.
What should we know about Rhys Byrns the person?
I am humble, hard working and extremely passionate. I love winning and am a very loving person.
What stands out about your film the most?
I think what would stand out about my film most is how much of it there is. I started five seasons so there’s a lot of film tracking back to 2018.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I handle challenges on and off the field relatively similar. I lean on people I trust and love to make me laugh and happy, and I know that everything will always work out in the end.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team would get a reliable punter who will be consistent and always put the team first.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love the crowds and the traditions of the game. I love to watch football.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Eric Garror is most underrated, he is a great cornerback and punt returner and goes under the radar.
