What are the Most Watched Sporting Events in the World?

Super Bowl 57 NFL Draft

Sports are an important part of our culture. Competition in athleticism has been around since the earliest human civilization, and throughout history it has remained an important aspect of our society. Today, certain sports have an audience exceeding billions, so it isn’t surprising that they are more important in our culture than ever before. And to show just how big they are, we would like to go over four of the most watched sporting events in the world today.

FIFA World Cup

Naturally, it can’t be helped but to place the FIFA World Cup at the number one spot. Football has a following exceeding 3 billion fans. This is more than any other sport in the world, and in fact, more than double of what sports like tennis or hockey enjoy. And with the World Cup being the biggest event in football, it isn’t much of a surprise to learn that it is the biggest sporting event in the world today.

The FIFA World Cup is played once every four years, with the 3 years in between events serving to qualify the teams and choose the venue. In 2022, the competition will be held in Qatar, and sportsbooks are already preparing, setting up odds and getting ready for the big day. If you register on Bet Station, you will be ready to start betting on the latest iteration of the competition starts.

The Olympics

Is it really a surprise to find the Olympics on this list? The competition has been around, on-and-off since the Ancient world. The multi-discipline, international event, like the World Cup, is held every four years, and is divided into Summer and Winter Olympics, which alternate every two years. During Summer Olympics, outdoor sports like football, boxing, wrestling, etc. get their chance to shine. While during the Winer season it is skiing, ice skating, hockey and other winter sports that get their time.

The Olympics are watched, not just by fans of sports, but fans of the spectacle. The opening of the Olympics is a huge event, akin to the Super Bowl Half-Time Show. And speaking of which…

The Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is America’s answer to the World Cup. While American football does not enjoy the same degree of popularity outside of the USA, the Super Bowl still manages to be one of the biggest and most beloved sporting events in the world. The reasons for this, many argue, are twofold.

One is the spectacular half-time show, played during the Super Bowl. The biggest musicians and musical artists have performed the show and have done their best to entertain the crowd. The other reason, is the large betting potential when it comes to the Super Bowl. It is one of the most bet on events in sports and will likely remain as such for a long time.

24 Hours of Le Mans

Lastly, we come to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a French, endurance-based auto race, held annually in Le Mans. It is the world’s oldest endurance racing event, with the first race being held in 1923, almost 100 years ago. The goal of the Le Mans racers is to cover the longest distance in 24 hours, which makes it quite unique among the mostly-fixed-distance races today.
