Pittman’s Pocket: Jackson State Tigers pull off the win against a tough Tennessee State Tigers team
Eddie George and the Tennessee State Tigers came to play football last tonight in the Southern Heritage Classic game in South Memphis, TN.
Eddie George and his dynamic QB Draylen Ellis were doing everything they could to get the win over Jackson State. Ellis finished the game 10-24 for 138 yards but it was not enough to top Jackson State.
Jackson State was able to bottle up Devon Starling holding him to 70 yards on 18 carries.
Coach Prime and his Jackson State defense were able to hold the TSU Tigers from getting in the endzone which ultimately gave them enough time to finally reach paydirt.
They just completely shut down Coach George’s offense by dominating the line of scrimmage with Sacks from Tre’Von Riggins and Jason Mercier the FIU transfer.
TSU defense was not shabby themselves, they did force 2 fumbles.
But ultimately it was the young Sanders, Shedeur who connected with wideout Shane Hooks to lift the Tigers past TSU.
Sanders threw 30 completions for 276 yards and 1 touchdown. Shane Hooks was his star wide out who hauled in 9 receptions for 93 yards.
Both Sy’veon Wilkerson and JD Martin moved the pile for the Tigers and did a great job on the ground.
Tennessee State’s Gleson Sprewell was really impactful as the senior had a Shane Hooks fumble recovery.
All in all the Southern Heritage Classic was a huge success. JSU was dominated by mistakes but found a way to win. The crowd of 51,000 thousand in attendance it is safe to say that HBCU FOOTBALL IS BACK!
Last Night, The Jackson State Tigers made it official that they’re still the REAL Tigers in HBCU.
