Family of Former Albany State football player killed by a City Bus wins a lawsuit against the city

Albany State football player Adonis Butler was hit and killed by a transit bus when he was walking on campus.

Adonis Butler was a fun player to watch at Albany State. The sophomore football player was killed after he was struck by a city of Albany transit bus on campus back in November 2021.

The linebacker was on a marked crosswalk when he was struck by the bus driver.

The family won a lawsuit against the city of Albany this week, winning 500,000 dollars.

The $500,000 settlement ends all potential civil claims against the city. According to city officials, Albany has self-insured retention of $150,000, before their insurance policy pays the rest.

The family would like to start a scholarship fund in memory of their son. The City of Albany bus driver was charged with two misdemeanors. According to the DA’s office, Sylvia Tellis was charged with second-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Adonis Butler was a 5’10 linebacker from Stockbridge, Georgia. He had a bright future.
