College Football Player Carlos Stephens convicted of killing a nursing student over a pair of AirPods
Former Alabama-Birmingham football player Carlos Stephens has pleaded guilty to murdering nursing student Destiny Washington.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder.
Authorities believe she and a friend had arranged to meet Stephens to sell him a set of AirPods for $100 when she was fatally shot in a parking lot outside of the university’s student center, according to a news release.
Stephens pled guilty to a lesser charge. In April a jury found him guilty of capital murder, but the judge vacated the verdict because of juror misconduct.
The young nursing student was attending Lawson State Community College through a joint admission program with UAB, when killed.
Please keep the family and friends of both Washington and Stephens in your prayers.
Carlos Stephens was a 5’7 running back who played his freshman year for the Blazers. Stephens took visits to Jacksonville State, Auburn and some Division II schools, but didn’t get any scholarship offers from any of them before attending UAB.
