Jets cornerback DJ Reed learned of his Father’s death before facing the Ravens and his tribute was awesome
New York Jets may not have won against the Baltimore Ravens, but one player who shined in his week 1 game was former Kansas State defensive back DJ Reed.
Reed a former fifth round pick of the 49ers played this past weekends football game with a heavy heart and he was a beast.
Reed found out before the game that his father Dennis passed away. His Father Dennis Sr. has been battling Multiple Sclerosis since 2004 and was taken off of life support this past week. His father passed away before DJ took the field on Sunday.
Reed was notified by family and friends before the game that his Father passed.
“It was really emotional,” Reed told reporters “The national anthem played and I was just crying and stuff.”
Reed was amazing in his emotional game. He gave up no receptions, and had a pick in the fourth quarter. What he did next was amazing.
He ran out to the 50 yard line and kneeled and pointed to the sky for his father.
No one was aware his Father had just died. Many were questioning it because the team was down 24-3, but this was more than football.
Reed explains it here to reporters.
We would like to send our condolences to DJ’s family and friends, but I love this tribute! God Bless You young man, I know your Pops was smiling down after that pick!
