If the 49ers release QB Jimmy Garoppolo would the Seahawks sign him?

Let’s face it, there is no way in the world, Pete Carroll can be happy with Geno Smith and Drew Lock. Last week, Geno Smith looked horrible, and Drew Lock was out with COVID. Lock was expected to start before getting sick.

Many believe that if the 49ers did depart with Jimmy Garoppolo, he would be signed by the Seahawks. While that could be the case, Matt Maiocco said the Niners actually fear that.

“I would suspect that he’s released on Aug. 30, and then it doesn’t go to Sept. 10,” Maiocco said of Garoppolo. “They could hold on to him for that long, but I don’t think they would do that because that would mean that, in essence, they would have to cut one more player than they want to because, with him, it would be 52 players and Jimmy Garoppolo. And so with the roster that they have, I just don’t see them doing that.”

“And I know around the 49ers, that they think he’s going to be ending up in Seattle,” Maiocco continued during the segment.

Would the 49ers want Jimmy Garoppolo coming back to face them twice a year? If they are not happy about that situation, they are going to have to come down on their offer price.

There are definitely teams that would trade for Jimmy G, the problem becomes whether they can afford him. While the Browns are the only team that could, many feel they will not pursue Jimmy G and roll with Jacoby Brissett.

Well, if Brett Favre was the GM he would start Jimmy Garoppolo over Trey Lance.

“My personal opinion, I would go with Garoppolo,” Favre told The 33rd Team in an interview shared on Monday. “He’s not as flashy — not near as flashy. He wasn’t their first-round pick, and no offense towards Trey Lance, but what Jimmy has done is win. And win, win, win.

“Again, not flashy so it’s not the glamorous pick, but my goodness, the guy has won and put them in a position to go or compete for the Super Bowl year in and year out and deserves that right to keep playing.”

Garoppolo does not figure to be on the 49ers’ roster, and the move would create an immediate savings of $25.5 million on the salary cap if he is traded or cut. So this coud be a huge deal if Jimmy Garoppolo is released.

So that leaves what other teams? I have to agree with Maiocco, if the Niners released Jimmy G he will be playing you a little later in the year. I would want to play my old team twice, wouldn’t you?
