How serious are the Cleveland Browns about winning? This is a pretty telling sign
Today, Mary Kay Cabot from Cleveland.com, reported that while the Browns await the ruling of Peter C. Harvey on Deshaun Watson’s sexual assault case, the team has been doing their homework on a veteran quarterback.
According to the report, The Browns will consider acquiring Jimmy Garoppolo if Deshaun Watson’s six-game suspension significantly increases upon appeal.
The San Francisco 49ers have been patiently waiting to trade their back-up quarterback and it seems like the Browns could have the biggest need.
The suspension is currently under appeal, and the NFL is hoping that it gets increased to at least one year. If that happens, that could open the door for the Browns to acquire Garoppolo.
So what would the Browns be willing to deal to land the 49ers former starter? While the 49ers do not have much leverage at this point, they do have something that the Browns really need. They have watched Jacoby Brissett in practice and there is no way in hell they feel comfortable with him leading the way.
The Browns have been under a lot of heat lately. Kareem Hunt wants out, or a new contract, Baker Mayfield‘s situation was a mess, and now this.
Jimmy G is not a cheap option, his contract is worth 24.2 million dollars. Would he be willing to take a pay cut to play for the Browns? I mean Jimmy G could say give me a one year deal and demand to be traded when Deshaun Watson comes back, but they are going to have to pay for his services.
Jimmy G’s agent is not dumb, he also represents Tom Brady. The Browns are the only team in the NFL that can absorb Jimmy G’s cap hit and they have 49 million in cap space, but are they that committed to winning now?
They should be because Jimmy Garoppolo is a way better option than Jacoby Brissett.
