Cowboys owner puts his foot in his mouth after using a derogatory term for small people in a press conference

Former Cowboys scouting director Larry Lacewell left a legacy as large as his personality

Jerry Jones should stop while he is ahead. The guy is worth a ton of money, owns an NFL football team, and is in the news more than the team.

Yesterday in a press conference, Jones took a shot at three of his former players, then began talking about a former NFL scout the late great Larry Lacewell. Lacewell was the longtime director of college and pro scouting for the Cowboys. Jones however made an offensive statement and now little people around the world are demanding an apology.

“Lace held court out here,” Jones said while speaking about his former employee who passed away at 85 years old in May. “I’m going to get me somebody, a m*****, to stand up there with me and dress him up like Lace and think Lace is still out here helping us. Look at the practice with us.”

“But, you know, we all need our props. A little memory that goes with him.”

Now, Little People of America slammed the Cowboys owner demanding an apology for his comments.

“M***** is a term that has widely been known to be derogatory for years and should be common knowledge to anyone in the public arena, such as Jerry Jones,” the LPA said. “Ignorance at this point is simply not an excuse. Any use of this disparaging slur along with suggestions or insinuations that our stature exists for amusement is deplorable and inexcusable.”

“Those who use the term m***** or any terminology that further stigmatizes people born with dwarfism are asked to educate themselves to eradicate this word,” the org. said. “Little People of America is asking Jerry Jones to issue an apology and vow to use appropriate terminology rooted in respect and dignity going forward.”

Jerry acted quickly and apologized to the little people around the world.

“Earlier today I made a reference which I understand may have been viewed as offensive,” he said in a statement. “I apologize.”
