Two men arrested for capital murder in the slaying of former NFL football player Du’Vonta Lampkin

The family of Du’Vonta Lampkin may finally get some closure. Two people were arrested for the killing of former University of Oklahoma football standout Du’Vonta Lampkin.
According to reports, Antwan Franklin, 22, and Erick Garcia, 24, were booked into the Dallas County jail on July 8, with bail set at $500,000 for Franklin and $750,000 for Garcia. Each faces a charge of capital murder in the death of 25-year-old Du’Vonta Lampkin, and it is unclear whether they have attorneys.
Franklin reportedly set up the fatal robbery of his friend Lampkin, according to police affidavits.
This incident happened back on May 5th, when officers were called to an apartment, where they found Lampkin dead from a single gunshot to the chest.
It was a pretty crazy scene, according to the Dallas Morning News, it was all set up by his friend.
According to the affidavit, Franklin and Lampkin were seen on surveillance footage parking in front of the apartment at about 1:40 a.m. Fifteen minutes later, Franklin appeared to wave to Garcia and another person to “come on” or “move forward” while Lampkin was still in the car and couldn’t see.
Garcia and the other person then went inside the apartment and looked for the unit Lampkin was staying in before hiding in a stairwell, the affidavit says.
As Franklin walked away from the complex, Lampkin entered the building shortly after 2 a.m., and the affidavit says Garcia and the other person immediately ran up behind him as he got off the elevator on the fifth floor. A minute later, Garcia was seen running back to the stairwell with Lampkin’s backpack, which “was known to be full of money,” according to the affidavit.
The Cypress Falls, Texas, native had 28 career tackles at OU before declaring for the 2018 NFL Draft, where he went undrafted and signed with the Titans.
Please keep the family in your prayers, during this tough time. I hope justice is served, because this is horrible. I cannot believe his own friend set him up. Rest in Peace Du’Vonta.
