Former CFL draft pick arrested and charged with multiple sex crimes on underage persons
Michael Carter was a star football player back in the day and had a great career at the University of Maryland. Back in 2011 he was drafted in the 3rd round of the CFL Draft by the BC Lions and would end up spending the next seven years of his life playing football throughout the league.
The former draft pick is now facing a serious allegation where he was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitation after two persons under the age of 18.
According to 3downNation, Carter was an employee of the Greater Essex County School Board and served as a high school advisor. Due to the nature of his position, he had involvement with multiple schools and has served as a coach and mentor in the local football community for several years.
Police determined that Carter was communicating both in-person and through social media with both victims prior to the alleged assaults, leading to his arrest without incident on April 2. Investigators believe there is potential for more victims and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
Carter is a 35 year old who played in 65 games in his career making 8 starts. Police are now looking into this matter more and are encouraging anyone else with information to come forward. Anonymous tips can be made via Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 or www.catchcrooks.com.
