Hula Moolah: Five defensive players that made money at the 2022 Hula Bowl
The Hula Bowl was a huge success. The game had over 170 scouts in attendance, including a representative from every NFL team, CFL team, the XFL and the USFL. There were some amazing players, but I thought it would be fun to showcase several players who really had a dominant week and really helped themselves.
At any All-Star game, you better be willing to jump up to the line and get as many reps you can. NFL teams love to watch players willing to put their body on the line and there were several players who really did a great job at separating themselves from the others. Let’s talk about those five players.
Ralph Holley, DL, Western Michigan – Holley was a late addition to the game and boy did he impress. He was a very dominating defensive lineman who made the most of his opportunities. When another player went down, Holley jumped in and took the 3rd and 4th defensive lineman reps. He helped himself all week long.
Drew White, LB, Notre Dame – I am a fan of this kid. His motor never stops. He had a great week of practice then finished it off with a great game. White, a Florida native put on a show for his hometown state. He looks great and is very underrated.
Tariq Carpenter, S, Georgia Tech/Joey Blount, S, Virginia – These two are the most energetic players on the field. Both Blount and Carpenter would finish the game with a pick. Carpenter showed off his abilities all week and he has a twitch to him. He lined up at linebacker, safety and cornerback. He is a beast! Blount made money for himself because of his ability to break on a ball. He had a great showing. He reminds me of Micah Hyde.
Bryce Notree, LB, Southern Illinois – I love energy on the field, and every time the camera scrolled through the practices or games, Bryce Notree would be dancing. He had a great week of practice and really made a name for himself. I had several higher ups from NFL teams ask me about Notree specifically. He made money, and he is a Saluki!
Christian Holmes, CB, Oklahoma State – Holmes was probably the most impressive player at the event. This is my personal opinion, but he looked the part. He is a huge corner with long arms. He looks like D’Angelo in the Brown Sugar video, the kid has abs for days. NFL teams loved his play and all said the same thing, he will be an NFL corner. Holmes not only looks the part, he had a great week of practice!
