NFL Draft Diamonds Free Agent Interview: DJ Abnar, Athlete

DJ Abnar Free Agent Running back
DJ Abnar is one of the most elusive free agent running backs available. The kid can line up in the slot, and play special teams. He recently sat down with Justin Berendzen of Draft Diamonds.

Hello, I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL, CFL, and XFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. So I hope you all read his interview and follow his journey on Twitter @DJAbnar

1. What is a skill that you have that you think translates into the NFL well?

Speed, speed kills. It’s a completely different ball game when you bringing wheels to the table.

2. What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

Energizer bunny, that’s who I am and who I’ve always been. They would get somebody that has some juice. And I would add a spark on the team.

3. What do you hope to achieve as a football player going forward?

I just want to be the best at my position and earn respect in the football industry.

4. What is your favorite workout?

Pool workout, puts less stress on your body.

5. What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I choose to play football because where I’m from they are looked at as heroes. Nothing like that fresh cut grass growing up at your local little league field. Growing up in a football state watching the big colleges and NFL teams didn’t make it better. I saw that they were always in the community and setting the example. And wanted to be like that.

6. What is one moment in your football career that improved you as a football player?

In high school I was getting ready to play in a state playoff game, it was raining cats and dogs out there. The field was flooded. We were practicing field goal blocks. For some reason I wasn’t diving in the mud, I just wasn’t with it. Coach came up to me and “this game is coming down to a block field and I need you to get the job done…” the next rep I dove and block the field goal. That moment I knew sometimes you got to get down and dirty sometimes to get the job done. I ended up blocking the field goal that week to take us to the next round.

7. What sets you apart from other athletes?

The fact that I am a versatile player.

8. What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

First key is being mentally prepared, football in 90 percent mental 10 percent physical. You have to be prepared for the mental battle that thrown at you. Second key is you got to be tough it’s a battle in between those lines. It’s fun but at the end of the day we play a sport where you may get knocked down but you got to get back up to win the war. Especially at running back that linebacker blitzing in the “A gap “ ain’t no joke.
