Draft Diamonds Free Agent Interview: Cecil Cherry, Linebacker

Cecil Cherry the hard hitting linebacker the unsigned linebacker recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds writer Justin Berendzen.

Hello I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL and CFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. 1.What are your favorite moments from your football career?

My favorite moment of my career is every level if you ask me. I always had adversity throughout my career. God always allow me to keep pushing. Most all of being a middle school on Frostproof Bulldogs varsity football winning defensive of player of the year from 8th grade to South Florida adjust and learning different scheme and also Tennessee Martin playing my graduation year. Grambling state was also wonderful too and learning the culture and experience of the legacy around there. Football was great too. I don’t regret my career because I met some important people and great people along my journey.

2.What do you do for fun?

I love to train and have a great experience and hunt also do wild life stuff. I love to help at a funeral home also. Multiple different things I love to do.

3.What is your mindset when you are on the football field?

My mindset is to kill and destroy and make my present known quickly and immediately with a serious hit. I love to take the soul out of people on the field. I’m not just saying but everywhere I been throughout my career they can tell you that my hits are very different. Also God just let me have fun and enjoy.

4.What is your nickname or if you don’t have a nickname what would you say your nickname is?

All types of different nicknames. Cecil the diesel. Big back and nightmare.

5.What has been your biggest challenge in life?

My biggest challenge in my life is balance your career with fixing your name for scouts and coaches then couldn’t have a pro day because of Covid-19 and I’m speaking up for the 84 percent of athletes didn’t have a fair chance in 2020 NFL previous draft. It’s like you don’t know nothing but believe in God and work hard being patient because everything his timing. Faith without work dead God tell you that in bible. I just work and have faith. I was in the wanted paper on the hood store as a child knowing I was giving away not having no control and learning your story in your life upon your journey no other challenge much stronger trying to elevate your life against your past and trying to better your life is everything during all obstacles but it teach you a lot and help you learn more.

6.What do you hope to accomplish if you make it into the NFL?

My Goal to accomplish in the NFL is learn the system and respect the core value of a team and the NFL rules. I can come to a team and be immediately impact of special teams and help learn  and fight for a spot at Linebacker. Also do whatever make the team better by giving 100 percent everyday.

7.What is your favorite workout?

My favorite workout is everything basically because you have to help build every muscle up in your body and running too.

8.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I been playing little league football my whole life so coming from Polk  County and also frostproof little league and lake wales I meant family we all played together and took it very seriously trying to win I use to play 3 games a day. Also played with older people too and also playing turn it up busy him up in the hood.

9.If you could live anywhere in the world where and why?

I would love to stay any where that have a island to enjoy and relax and also grind in the sand. Also enjoy life with my future wife on my off time and still grind too push her to grind also. Live life the right way and enjoy my career.

10.What would a team get in a player like you?

A team would see that I’m hungry and humble willing to go a thousand reps on special teams drills and give my all regardless the challenge is and willing to learn how to be a pro and be the best at whatever I’m doing Linebacker and Special teams.

11.If your life was a tv show what would you call it and why?

I love the show Sanford and Son’s. Red fox be having me rolling and his sister in a Super Bowl in little league and they were always played on Sunday when they going at it. Rest in pace to a legend. My middle name is Sanford also. Cecil Sanford Cherry. My Grandfather name was Cecil Sanford. He was from frostproof so yea.

12.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Anyone who is positive to be honest because you could help each other
