How is AP First-Team All American Safety Lamont McPhatter II Still Unsigned?

The 5-foot -11, 200 pound Safety out of the California University of PA is surprisingly unsigned as of Monday afternoon. Lamont McPhatter II was named an AP First-Team All-American for the second straight year after a standout senior season. He is the second defensive back out of California University of PA to receive AP All-American status multiple times, following in the footsteps of former Jets safety Rontez Miles.

McPhatter sure does have the credentials to land on an NFL roster. The two-year captain finished his career with 197 total tackles, 12 interceptions and 31 passes defended. The star safety is tied for first amongst all active players across all NCAA Divisions with six career defensive touchdowns (four interceptions, 2 fumble returns). His 329 interceptions reception yards sits second amongst all NCAA Division II players.

McPhatter’s time in the NFL will come sooner rather than later. The kid is too talented to not get a shot in the league. Keep an eye out for him in training camp as he makes his way onto an NFL roster come the start of September.
