XFL Week 1 Top Performers: Nelson Spruce and PJ Walker shined week 1
QB
Phillip Walker aka “PJ” – Houston Roughnecks – He threw for 265 yards and 4 TDs and 26 Rush Yards. This guy is going to be the star QB of this league if he keeps it up. He was awesome and I suggest you should all try to go see him and the Roughnecks.
Cardale Jones DC Defenders– He threw for 283 yards and 2 TDs . There were mistakes but he still played well. Another QB to watch going forward.
Jordan Ta’amu Saint Louis Battlehawks– He had 183 pass yards and 1 TD which was ok and I think he hopefully improves on that. But he also had 77 rush yards and a huge 37 yard run. If his passing numbers go up he’s a Dual threat that NFL teams will want.
RB
James Butler Houston Roughnecks– James had 50 total yards, rush TD, reception TD. He only had 50 yards but he was impressive and was like a Swiss army knife he did everything and even played well on special teams. NFL teams should look at this guy.
RB Matt Jones Saint Louis Battlehawks- He had the most rushing yards of any XFL RB and looked good. Hopefully he’ll punch it in to the End zone next week.
WR
Austin Proehl Seattle Dragons– He had 5 catches for 88 yrds and 2 TDs. He was pretty good except a play where he fell down. He will be the Dragons number 1 target going forward and hopefully he doesn’t slip again which was the only mishap. Otherwise Proehl did well.
Nelson Spruce LA Wildcats– He had 11 catches for 103 yards. He caught everything thrown in his direction and probably the only bright spot for the Wildcats this weekend but McBride gets back I think Spruce and McBride will be in interesting wr duo.
Daniel Williams Tampa Bay Vipers– He had 6 catches for 123 yards. He was reliable and the rest of the team hopefully improves. That’s all I can say.
TE
Khari Lee DC Defenders– Only had 1 catch for 39 yards and a TD but that one catch was awesome. He was moving good on that TD catch.
Donald Parham Dallas Renegades– He’s a big target who I think should be used more but he was effective for the Renegades. Parham had 4 catches for 40 yards.
Offensive Lines
Roughnecks Offensive Line– They were like a brick wall in front of PJ Walker. The Wildcats could not break through much at all.
Guardians Offensive Line-Now I do not know how good the Vipers are pass rush but they didn’t get to Mcgloin. We’ll see if it was a mirage but that Oline looked decent.
DL
Roughnecks Kony Ealy + Corey Crawford– This tag team is legit and they were causing havoc for the Wildcats. Ealy only had half a sack but his presence was known. Crawford was a beast with 3 tackles, an assist and half a sack. Offensive Linemen watch out for these guys.
Elijah Qualls Defenders– He had 2 tackles, 2 assists and a fumble recovery. I think Qualls has a big presence on the Dline and is a force.
Frank Alexander Renegades– He had 5 tackles , an assist and a sack I think Alexander played well and will also be a guy Offensive Linemen should be afraid of. And he did it against a Battlehawks offensive line that was good not great but good.
LB
Latroy Lewis Houston Roughnecks– This guy along with previously mentioned Ealy and Crawford makes a three headed monster for offensive lines. Lewis had 2 tackles,2 sacks and a forced fumble. Lewis played really well and I think NFL teams should look at him.
Terrance Garvin Saint Louis Battlehawks-Garvin was awesome with 8 tackles 2 assists and 1 sack. This guy was awesome in the AAF didn’t get a NFL chance. I think he should get that chance after this season because he is a stud.
Jameer Thurman DC Defenders– This guy was a tackling machine out there 8 tackles and 2 assists. Huge part in the Defenders LB core and was good.
DBs
Defenders Elijah Campbell and Bradley Slyve– Campbell was awesome and should definitely be on an NFL team for training camp after the XFL Season he had 1 tackle and was huge on special teams and had blocked punt and got a TD and Slyve was lockdown on d and had a Pick 6 . Both guys played very well
Guardians Jamar Summers and Andrew Soroh – These guys were huge Soroh hopefully is ok after getting injured but he had an Int and Jamar Summers was awesome fumble recovery TD and both these guys were a huge presence back there.
Dexter McCoil Saint Louis Battlehawks– You saw earlier I said James Butler was the Swiss army knife for the Roughnecks offense well McCoil was one for the Battlehawks defense. He had 8 tackles ,3 assists and 1 sack. McCoil played very well.
Kicker of the week:
Austin Macginnis Renegades-He made 3 FGs and didn’t miss any either. Makes from 42, 32, and 23.
