NFL Draft Diamonds Prospect Analysis: Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State
NFL Draft Prospect Analysis: Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego St.
Rashaad Penny has the desired NFL size for an every-down running back, and he also finishes plays with authority lowering his shoulder and fighting for extra yards. Penny has the qualities of a slasher and is also a very patient runner which helps him set up his blockers. His lower body is extremely powerful and he sheds off arm tackles because of it. Penny does a great job altering pursuit angles and has the speed to get around the corner and accelerate. He is a very versatile prospect; penny also returns kicks and does it effectively. Penny averaged 31.9 yards per kickoff return along with 7 touchdowns over the past 3 seasons at San Diego St. He is a volume-carry running back and he plays with an active running style, he also has the foot quickness to create substantial yardage for himself. Penny’s durability and his motor will definitely help him succeed in the NFL. He doesn’t always have a feel for the best running lanes and needs to become a more effective pass catcher out of the backfield but he can definitely learn and get the job done. I believe he will be drafted in rounds 2-3 and certainly has the potential to be a productive NFL starter.
