Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Kyle Harbridge, RB, St. Francis University

Kyle Harbridge is a very solid running back with quick cuts and the ability to put his head down and truck someone.  In 2012, Kyle had to redshift due to an injury, but his 2013 season he came back at full speed. Kyle rused for 1692 yards and scored 16 touchdowns.  Harbridge is a very solid back with a ton of heart.  He never gives up on runs and plays at a very high level.  Whatever team picks up Kyle will be getting a steal, because the kid has that “it” factor.

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

I wasn’t heavily recruited out of high school.  A lot of D3 schools close to home and a few PSAC schools.

Where did you choose and why?

I chose St. Francis University of Pennsylvania (FCS), because I knew I could go there and make an instant impact in turning the football program around.  More importantly they had a reputable school of business, where I obtained a degree in marketing.

What were your goals for your senior year?

My goals for my senior year were to be a better player, teammate, and leader than the year before; as well as win a conference championship.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

Indianapolis Colts, just asking general questions pertaining to my family, background, and football.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

What separates me from other running backs is my versatility, big play ability, and ball security.  Entirely too many fumbles from the running back position in the NFL today.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

When breaking down film I look for tendencies throughout the entire defense, but more importantly the individual match ups I will have in pass protection, carrying the football, and receiving the ball.  Drilling down on these tendencies gives me an advantage in winning my 1/11th of each play.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

Jose Gumbs, Monmouth Univ. Alum now playing for the Washington Redskins.  A guy with great football instincts and speed to make plays all over the field.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

My play is similar to a Danny Woodhead or Darren Sproles.  These backs embody great explosiveness and speed, along with their versatility as receivers and return men.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

My injury that caused me to red shirt my senior year.  It was frustrating not being able to play, but all that time off put football in a different perspective that made love and respect the game even more.  I overcame it with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the support of others.

What system fits your style of play the best?

A system that has a zone running attack.  I’m a cutback type of runner.  Also, a system that has a creative offensive mind to use my versatility to create a mismatch against the defense.

What is your biggest strength?

Biggest strength is my work ethic.

What is your biggest weakness?

Biggest weakness is that I still have a lot to learn about the game of football.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

I’m a guy that will come to work everyday striving to be the best at everything that I am asked of.  I won’t be a problem off the field, and my consistency as a player will leave no doubt in your mind as to why I am on this team.

Growing up, who was your role model?

My parents are my role models.  The person I am today is a reflection of who they are, and couldn’t be more blessed to have them in my life.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

Philadelphia Eagles. Favorite Player: Adrian Peterson, he’s the epitome of a professional.  He does his job tremendously both on and off the field.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

Grandpop/Pop-pop, Walter Payton, and Steve Jobs

With your first paycheck what would you buy?

I’d buy a trip to Bora-Bora for my parents.
