Former Sacramento State offensive lineman Ivan Garza has died at the age of 25 after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a roadway on Wednesday.

Sacramento State announced Garza’s passing in a statement shared on the football program’s social media accounts, mourning the loss of the former standout offensive tackle.

Garza was a key member of the Hornets from 2019 through 2023 after redshirting during his freshman season. Over the course of his collegiate career, he appeared in 38 games and made 36 starts, lining up at both left and right tackle.

The 6-foot-5 offensive lineman helped Sacramento State capture back-to-back Big Sky Conference championships in 2021 and 2022. His strong play during his final season earned him honorable mention All-Big Sky recognition in 2023.

Before joining the Hornets, Garza starred at Robert F. Kennedy High School in Delano, California, where he developed into one of the area’s top offensive line prospects.

No additional details regarding the crash have been released. The Sacramento State community continues to mourn the loss of Garza, remembering him not only for his contributions on the field but also for the impact he made as a teammate and member of the Hornets family.
