A worker employed by a subcontractor on the Denver Broncos’ new training facility project died Monday night while working at the construction site, prompting an investigation and a temporary halt to construction activities.

The Denver Broncos confirmed the tragic incident in a statement released Tuesday, expressing condolences to the worker’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“The Denver Broncos are heartbroken to learn a subcontractor working on our new training center passed away Monday while on-site,” the organization said. “We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the individual’s family, coworkers and friends during this difficult time.”

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, workers discovered the man unresponsive in a confined ceiling area at approximately 8:20 p.m. Monday. Emergency personnel from South Metro Fire Rescue responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the individual was pronounced dead at the site.

Authorities have not yet released the worker’s identity. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

Turner Construction, the company overseeing the project, announced that work on the facility has been suspended while law enforcement officials investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for the worker’s family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and all those impacted by this tragedy,” Turner Construction said in a statement provided to The Denver Post.

The incident occurred at the Broncos’ new $175 million training facility, known as Broncos Park, which has been under construction since 2024. The state-of-the-art complex is expected to be completed later this summer and will serve as the central hub for both football and business operations.

According to the team, the 205,000-square-foot, three-story facility will feature a player-focused first floor designed to maximize efficiency, a mass-timber architectural design, and an underground parking garage. The project represents a significant investment in the franchise’s future and is intended to modernize operations for years to come.

As investigators work to determine what led to the worker’s death, construction remains paused and both the Broncos organization and Turner Construction have pledged their full cooperation with authorities.

Further details are expected to be released once the coroner’s investigation is complete.
