Independence Bowl: Burnette Sparks Late Surge as Louisiana Tech Finishes Strong

Shreveport, La.- The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl turned into a showcase of resolve and timely execution, as Louisiana Tech stormed past Coastal Carolina 23–14 behind a dominant fourth-quarter performance fueled by physical football and clutch playmaking.

Locked in a tight battle entering the final frame, the Bulldogs found their spark through running back Andrew Burnette, whose powerful touchdown run cut through the heart of the Coastal Carolina defense. Moments later, Burnette delivered again — converting the two-point attempt to swing momentum firmly toward Louisiana Tech and energize the sideline.

That sequence cracked the game open.

From there, the Bulldogs seized control. Quarterback Trey Kukuk continued to stress the defense with his dual-threat ability, finishing with 114 passing yards and 104 on the ground. Wide receiver Marlion Jackson provided the explosive edge, hauling in a 52-yard touchdown that shifted field position and forced Coastal Carolina into catch-up mode.

Defensively, Louisiana Tech answered every challenge. A key goal-line stand in the third quarter kept the Chanticleers from extending their lead, while a late interception in the fourth sealed the comeback. Coastal Carolina quarterback Tad Hudson threw for 311 yards and two touchdowns, but turnovers and stalled drives in the second half proved costly.

In the end, the Independence Bowl belonged to the Bulldogs — a statement win built on toughness, execution, and late-game composure. Burnette’s touchdown and two-point conversion will stand as the defining moment, symbolizing Louisiana Tech’s refusal to fade when the stakes were highest.
