Chicago Bears vs San Francisco 49ers – Sunday Night Football – Week 17 Preview & Prediction

Caleb Williams, Ben Johnson, DJ Moore and the Chicago Bears face off against Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers in one of the biggest games of the 2025 NFL season on Sunday Night Football.

The Bears came up with their biggest regular season win in decades last week against the Packers, both them and the 49ers clinched playoff spots last week but both are now playing for the number 1 seed in the NFC and a first round bye which is very realistic for both of them. D’Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai form one of the backfields in the league and last week they had to make up for the Luther Burden injury and the Rome Odunze injury which took two of their best receivers off the field and forced them to play much more conservative. With the Fred Warner injury and the Nick Bosa injury the best two defenders for the 49ers got knocked out for the season early in the year and they lack superstar power to limit this Bears offense with Drew Dalman, Jonah Jackson, Joe Thuney, and Darnell Wright playing on possibly the best offensive line in the NFL.

The George Kittle injury may be significant but it was a low angle sprain not a high ankle sprain so he’ll be ready for the Playoffs but may potentially miss the game vs the Bears or likely will not be near 100% healthy. The Ricky Pearsall injury made him miss the game vs the Colts, so this SNF game is starting to look like a heavy CMC game where he gets around 30 touches. Levi stadium will be one of the best atmospheres of the season but there will be droves of Chicago Bears fans making the trip out west to support their team potentially clinch the NFC North with a win.

In order to do that they will need to get pressure on the quarterback from Montez Sweat and Austin Booker, while Jaylon Johnson, Nashon Wright and Kevin Byard have to hold up in coverage as the Kyler Gordon injury has sidelined one of the best nickel’s in the league for most of the season. Tremaine Edmunds is back at linebacker next to TJ Edwards which helps, so overall Chicago is getting healthier towards the end of the season while the 49ers have lingering concerns with their injuries.
