Former Texas Star High School Football Player Lost his Life to save his family from Floods

A Texas father is being hailed as a hero after tragically losing his life while saving his family from sudden, devastating floods that swept through the Guadalupe River region on July 4th.
Julian Ryan, described by loved ones as a “true hero,” died during the harrowing flood that engulfed parts of Kerrville, northwest of San Antonio. The area was hit hard when the Guadalupe River surged more than 20 feet in under two hours, catching hundreds by surprise — including children celebrating Independence Day at the nearby Mystic Christian summer camp.
Kerrville Mayor Joe Herring Jr. acknowledged the gravity of the tragedy, saying, “People need to know, today will be a hard day. It will be a hard day.”
Julian’s death has shaken the local community. A GoFundMe campaign set up to support his family shared the heartbreaking news: “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the unexpected and tragic passing of our beloved Julian Ryan on July 4th, 2025.”
The fundraiser has surpassed its $35,000 goal, raising $21,913 as of this writing. All proceeds will help provide financial assistance to his grieving family during this incredibly difficult time.
As search efforts continue and families await news, Julian Ryan’s bravery stands as a powerful reminder of love and sacrifice amid one of Texas’ deadliest flash floods in recent memory.
The former Ingram Moore HS football star broke a window to save his fiancée, their children, and his mother-in-law from rising floodwaters along the Guadalupe River
His sister said, “I’m scared.”
Julian replied, “Me too.”
Those were his last words. Rest in peace.
