3 NFL Camp Position Battles to Closely Observe

With less than 100 days until the NFL kickoff, teams are rolling into their OTAs. Let’s break down 3 positional battles that are littered with intriguing aspects.

Cleveland Browns – QB Battle: The Browns have 5 quarterbacks rostered. Deshaun Watson has been ruled out for most of the 2025 season, which sprung the team into action trying to find a starting QB. The Browns traded for Kenny Pickett, signed an old friend in Joe Flacco, drafted Dillon Gabriel in round 3 of the draft, and Shedeur Sanders in round 5. The team will likely carry 3 of the 4 QBs into the regular season. Based on primitive info from training camp and my own analysis, I believe the Browns will trade Kenny Pickett for a very late draft pick and roll into week 1 with Joe Flacco as the starter. The rookies will battle in preseason for QB2.

Kansas City Chiefs – WR Battle: The Chiefs have made a bunch of moves at WR in recent years. Last season, they played the Super Bowl with Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Deandre Hopkins as their primary targets. This clearly did not work out for them. The team re-signed an injured Hollywood Brown and is waiting for Rashee Rice to heal from his torn ACL. Drafting a talented player in Jalen Royals throws an interesting curveball in the depth chart. Based on primitive info from training camp and my own analysis, I believe the Chiefs will be starting Rashee Rice at the X, Hollywood Brown at the Z and Xavier Worthy in the slot.

Miami Dolphins – CB Battle: With Jalen Ramsey heavily insinuating his departure from Miami, there is now a huge gaping hole in that room. The only returning starter for them will be nickelback Kader Kohou. Miami had found a decent spot starter in last year’s undrafted pool with Storm Duck. They also have former 2nd round pick Cam Smith battling for a starting spot with newly drafted Jason Marshall. 2 other additions that could push for a starting spot include FA signing Artie Burns and UDFA signing BJ Adams, who has a lot of fans coming out of training camp. Based on primitive info from training camp and my own analysis, I believe the Dolphins will start Storm Duck and Jason Marshall at boundary CB in base packages, with Kader Kohou playing in the overhang in nickel and dime packages.
