What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I was put in football at a young age for being very active. My mother thought it would be smart especially with me being from Gary, Indiana and I’ve loved the game ever since!
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Last football season when we made the playoffs for the first time in school history!
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
Going forward, I want to finish this season as an all-conference player, I want to also continue to become the best player I can be and compete at the highest level possible. I also want to help my team win and leave a positive impact on every program I am part of.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
If I could hang out with any football player, I’d choose Sean Taylor. We played the same position, so I’ve always been interested in studying his game and understanding how he approached playing safety. I respected how physical and aggressive he was, but also how instinctive he was on the field.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My older brother, he is the reason I was able to be this successful in my career now! He played receiver and molded me into the defensive back and man I am now today on and off the field!
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
My favorite defensive scheme is a 4-2-5 because it gives the defense a lot of flexibility. I like being able to play fast, adjust to different formations, and make plays in both the run and pass game.
What should we know about Roman Hernandez person?
I’m competitive, but I also understand the importance of being a good teammate and supporting the people around me. I love to say I am a very humble, hardworking player!
What stands out about your film the most?
I think my physicality, effort, and ability to make plays, being around the ball a lot stands out the most. I play with a lot of energy, and I don’t like giving up on a play. I try to be aggressive, play fast, and make sure I’m doing my job for the team every snap.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I try to stay calm, learn from the situation, and keep moving forward. Playing defensive back taught me how to have a next play mentality, I don’t let one bad play or one setback define me. I focus on what I can control and use challenges as motivation.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team would get someone who is willing to work, compete, and do whatever is needed to help the team win. I’m coachable, dependable, and I bring energy every day.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
That football pushes me to be better mentally and physically, and I love the feeling of competing!
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
I would say my teammate Cam Tucker. He plays receiver here at Kentucky State with me and is one of those players who doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves, but he consistently shows up, works hard, and makes big plays when needed.
