What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I think what made me decide I wanted to be a football player was it was about like fourth grade and I was having a really hard time at school. I used to move around a lot and I was having a really hard time in school making friends and I heard that football was a really good way so I had to convince my dad to let me play football because he was pretty against it. Especially me starting like I guess it was a younger age, but I think I was starting at the time everyone else starts. It was really just like me making friends at a new school. That’s why I really wanted to start playing football.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Favorite moment has to be when I was playing for Delaware and my first ever college game I played was against Penn State and it was their home opener. Oh, that was insane, I got in, I got two tackles. Which is really fun hearing my name on the loudspeaker. Unfortunately, we didn’t win. I think that was my favorite moment of my career. My favorite moment at Slippery Rock is probably beating IUP, our rivals. That’s probably my favorite moment so far.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Definitely Tom Brady. I think Tom Brady he’s like the ultimate competitor. He just seems like a guy that would really be good to be around. I mean his mentality, his love for the game, the way he breaks down film, his intelligence. He’s not like the most athletic guy in the world, but he is special, like he uses his mind . I just want to understand the ins and outs of his mind.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
4-2-5. Definitely that scheme, that’s my favorite scheme. I played in 3-3 stacks. I’ve played in 4-3 defenses but a 4-2-5. I love it. I love having three other defensive lineman, putting pressure on the quarterback, getting in the backfield enough plus I love having two linebackers supporting us and five defensive backs in coverage just gives me a little bit more time to get back to that quarterback.
What stands out about your film the most?
I think what stands out about my film the most is that I have a really good motor. I think I have a really high motor and my bend especially for my size. I’m a bigger defensive end about 280 but I have a really good bend. I think those are the two things that stand out the most about me and just my knowledge about the game this is just some of the stuff I’ve been told just my understanding of the game, recognition of the plays, being one step ahead of the offense because I already know what they’re doing you know since I mean I’m in the film room for hours a day so I think that’s what really stands out on my tape.
What should we know about Brett Kwoka the person?
One thing you should know about me is outside of football. I have very interesting hobbies. I like to think I have really interesting hobbies. I really enjoy spearfishing and I like deep sea fishing. I’m a big fishing guy. I also like to read. I’m huge into reading. I just finished the red rising series. I know the Cleveland Browns are reading that right now and now I’m on this other series called the sun eater. I mean they’re definitely long. I’m super into reading.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love just every day you’re with the same guy like there’s no feeling you can’t even describe it. I think the closest thing you can get is like the military boot camp. It’s the same guys every day doing the same BS to get yelled at by the same coaches over and over and over and that level of bond and trust like you can hang out with these guys doing whatever and I know these guys always will always have my back you can reach out to me anytime. Just a level of trust and commitment we have to each other. You can’t touch it with anything else in the world, that’s why it is my favorite sport.
Who is the most underrated player you played with and why?
When I played at Shepherd. It was this guy named Cameron Dorner and you know he finally did get a lot of recognition but he was under the radar when we were first playing together he ended up transferring to North Texas and had a stint with the Patriots but he but he was probably the most freakishly athletic person I’ve played with him and then we had a linebacker Brodie Carroll, who’s now at Elon and he’s lighting up but with those two guys I don’t know how they fell under the radar. Those are some of the freakiest. athletes I’ve ever played with in my life.
