Former College Football Player Jaymar Mundy Dies at 24

Former college football player and La Salle High School standout Jaymar Hargrove-Mundy has died at the age of 24, La Salle High School football announced Wednesday.

Mundy, a 2021 La Salle graduate, was a standout defensive back for the Lancers and helped establish himself as one of the program’s top players during his high school career. His cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

La Salle football shared a heartfelt tribute to Mundy on Sept. 23.

“To our Champion. To our Teammate. To our Friend. To our Brother. Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of Jaymar Mundy,” the program wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, teammates and all who loved him. Forever a Lancer. Forever our Brother. Rest in Peace, Jaymar.”

Mundy played a major role in La Salle’s success. As a junior in 2019, he helped the Lancers capture a Division II state championship. During that championship season, Mundy recorded 50 tackles, 17 pass breakups and six interceptions.

He continued his strong play as a senior in 2020, helping La Salle reach the state semifinals. Mundy finished that season with 45 tackles, eight pass breakups and two interceptions while earning Greater Catholic League-South Defensive Back of the Year honors.

His performance earned him second-team All-State recognition as a senior after previously receiving third-team All-State honors as a junior.

Following his high school career, Mundy continued his football journey at the FBS level, playing at multiple programs. He ultimately finished his college career at Ohio University, where he played during the 2025 season.

Mundy’s journey from a championship-winning high school defensive back to an FBS football player was a source of pride for the La Salle community.

Now, the Lancers are mourning the loss of one of their own.

At just 24 years old, Mundy’s death has left former teammates, coaches, friends and family remembering a player who made a lasting impact both on and off the football field.
