College Quarterback Remains in Medically-Induced Coma After Collision During Game | Keep Praying

Mayville State quarterback Matt Donovan remains in a medically induced coma after suffering a serious head injury during Saturday’s game against Simpson University.

Donovan, 23, was injured during a collision in the third quarter of the September 19 matchup. According to Mayville State Athletics, he was immediately transported by air to Fargo for emergency medical treatment.

After arriving in Fargo, Donovan underwent brain surgery that lasted more than two hours. Doctors performed a procedure that included removing portions of his skull to relieve dangerous pressure on his brain.

The school explained that the pressure inside Donovan’s brain was significantly higher than normal.

Following the surgery, Donovan was moved to the intensive care unit, where he remains under close medical supervision.

Mayville State provided a positive update Sunday, reporting that Donovan’s eyes were reacting normally to light. According to the school, that response was encouraging enough for the neurosurgeon to describe the development as a positive sign.

Donovan remains in a medically induced coma as he continues to fight through the serious injury.

“He is still in a medically induced coma and is fighting like crazy,” Mayville State Athletics said in its statement, while asking for continued prayers and support for the quarterback and his family.

Donovan’s sister, Ashley, has also established a GoFundMe campaign to help the family during this difficult time. She explained that Donovan suffered a head-to-head collision during the game and collapsed following the impact.

Doctors discovered that Donovan had suffered a brain bleed, and he was subsequently airlifted to Fargo, where he underwent a craniotomy.
