15-Year-Old South Carolina High School Football Player Dies in a House Fire

A Lowcountry community is mourning the loss of a 15-year-old high school football player who died during a house fire in Hollywood, South Carolina, early Tuesday morning.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim Wednesday as Jaiden Odom, a Charleston resident and football player at Baptist Hill High School in Hollywood.

According to officials, emergency crews were called to a home in the 4800 block of Erika Place shortly after midnight Tuesday after a fire was reported.

When crews arrived, they learned that Odom was trapped inside the home. Firefighters worked to locate and rescue the teenager, eventually finding him and removing him from the residence.

Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Odom died at the scene from injuries sustained in the fire.

Odom was a member of the Baptist Hill High School football program, where his death has left teammates, coaches, classmates and members of the surrounding community grieving.

The circumstances surrounding the fire remain under investigation. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding what caused the fire or how Odom became trapped inside the residence.

The loss of a young athlete is being felt far beyond the football field, as friends, teammates and community members remember a teenager whose life was tragically cut short.

As investigators continue working to determine the cause of the fire, the Lowcountry community is coming together to remember Jaiden Odom and support those who knew and loved him.
