49ers owner Jed York arrested in a prostitution sting

San Francisco 49ers owner John “Jed” York was arrested in Ohio over the weekend and later found guilty of two misdemeanor charges following an undercover prostitution investigation, according to court documents.

York was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, after investigators say he responded to an advertisement posted on a known prostitution website. According to an affidavit, the advertisement was actually part of an undercover operation conducted by an agent with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.

Investigators allege that York communicated with the undercover agent and arranged to meet a woman for sexual activity in exchange for $140.

According to the affidavit, York arrived at the predetermined location carrying the cellphone he had used to arrange the meeting. Law enforcement officers then took him into custody.

The police report lists the arrest time as approximately 9:35 a.m. at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community off State Route 170 in East Palestine.

York posted a $5,000 bond following his arrest.

Court documents indicate that York was found guilty of two misdemeanor charges stemming from the incident. The case remains separate from York’s responsibilities with the 49ers, the NFL franchise owned by the York family.

The arrest comes as York remains one of the prominent owners in the National Football League. He became president of the 49ers in 2008 and later assumed control of the franchise following the passing of his father, Edward J. DeBartolo Jr.

The allegations described in the affidavit are based on an undercover investigation, and the charges and court proceedings should be distinguished from any unrelated conduct involving York or the 49ers.
