16-year-old girl charged with assault for allegedly tackling middle school football player

A middle school football game in Tennessee ended abruptly Tuesday night after a spectator allegedly ran onto the field and tackled a player during a confrontation between two teams.
The incident occurred during a game between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School at Franklin County High School in Winchester, Tennessee.
According to authorities, South Middle had just scored a touchdown and extra point when a scuffle broke out between two players. As officials attempted to address the situation, a 16-year-old girl allegedly jumped a fence and ran onto the field.
Investigators said the teenager then tackled the South Middle player who had been involved in the scuffle. Video obtained by WSMV reportedly shows the teen knocking the player to the ground and then making contact with him again before a coach intervened.
School resource officers encountered the teenager as she left the field. She was released to her parents, who were reportedly at the game.
The incident forced officials to make the decision to end the game early and clear the field.
South Middle ultimately won the game 35-0, but the final score quickly became secondary to what had unfolded on the field.
