Was former NFL RB Doug Martin killed by the Police? A new lawsuit has been filed

The parents of Doug Martin have filed a lawsuit in Federal court claiming Doug Martin died from excessive force by police and delayed medical care.

Doug’s parents claim he was suffering mental health crisis in October when police responded. The police held him “face down while one or more officers pressed on his back”.

The lawsuit says that this was a “substantial factor” in his death.

An Associated Press investigation has been investigating deaths and discovered more than 1000 people have died across the country after police subdued them through means not intended to be lethal, such as tasers, body blows and physical holds.

Police did claim there was a brief struggle that happened when they were trying to detain Martin, but they said he became unresponsive.

The craziest part of this lawsuit, is it took the ambulance more than 15 minutes to respond. The lawsuit also accuses Falck USA, Inc. and its subsidiary Falck Northern California Corp.’s paramedics of taking more than 15 minutes to respond to the call and not promptly providing medical care after they arrived. 

The Martin family has requested an autopsy and they are still awaiting results.
