Broncos football player arrested for second time in 8 days

Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper is facing additional legal trouble after authorities arrested him for allegedly violating a court-issued protection order connected to an ongoing domestic violence case.
According to police, Cooper was taken into custody after allegedly contacting and visiting his girlfriend despite being prohibited from doing so under the terms of the protection order. The new allegations have resulted in additional charges, including harassment.
Court documents allege that Cooper sent approximately 20 messages and made two phone calls to the woman after the protection order was issued. Authorities also claim that Cooper visited her apartment before she contacted law enforcement.
Cooper has maintained that he had not been served with a protection order at the time of the alleged violations.
The latest charges come after Cooper was previously charged with second-degree assault by strangulation, a felony offense. The case remains ongoing, and Cooper is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Beyond the legal proceedings, the situation could also draw scrutiny from the NFL. Under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, players can face discipline regardless of whether criminal charges result in a conviction. As a result, Cooper’s status could become a matter of concern for both the Broncos and the league as the investigation continues.
Cooper has emerged as one of Denver’s most productive defensive players after entering the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick. Over the past several seasons, he has developed into a key contributor to the Broncos’ pass rush and defensive front.
Any potential suspension or league-imposed discipline could have an impact on Denver’s defense heading into the upcoming season. However, the primary focus remains on the legal process and the serious allegations involved in the case.
The original domestic dispute also resulted in Cooper’s girlfriend being arrested, highlighting the complex nature of the incident. As the case moves forward, authorities and the courts will determine the facts surrounding the allegations.
For now, Cooper’s future both on and off the field remains uncertain as he navigates the legal process and awaits further developments in the case.
