Broncos linebacker and his girlfriend were arrested and charged after domestic dispute

Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper and his longtime girlfriend were arrested late Thursday night following a domestic dispute, according to a report by The Denver Post citing jail records and an arrest affidavit.
As of Friday afternoon, Cooper had been formally charged with one count of Class 2 misdemeanor criminal mischief, according to court records obtained by The Denver Post.
The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument between Cooper, 28, and his girlfriend of approximately four years. According to the arrest affidavit, she accused Cooper of infidelity and allegedly took his phone, throwing it across the room before attempting to retrieve it and look through its contents.
Police reports indicate that Cooper told officers he grabbed his girlfriend by her upper arms while trying to recover his phone. The affidavit further states that when she attempted to take the phone again, Cooper allegedly used his neck to block her access.
According to The Athletic, which also cited the arrest affidavit, Cooper warned his girlfriend that he would damage her phone if she did not leave his apartment. The report states that Cooper later caused significant damage to the device by biting it, rendering it unusable.
The Denver Broncos released a brief statement regarding the situation, saying, “We are aware of the matter and are gathering more information.”
