Five NFL Teams That Should Consider Brendan Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft

The NFL Supplemental Draft has historically been a place for teams to take calculated risks on prospects who, for one reason or another, were unavailable during the traditional draft process. While most supplemental draft picks never become stars, the low cost often makes the gamble worthwhile.

Quarterback Brendan Sorsby could be one of those intriguing prospects. Possessing a combination of arm talent, mobility, and developmental upside, Sorsby may not be ready to start immediately, but several NFL teams could benefit from adding him to their quarterback room.

Here are five teams that should consider making a move.

1. New York Jets

The Jets remain an obvious fit.

While the organization has worked to stabilize the quarterback position, it would be wise to continue investing in developmental talent. Sorsby could spend time learning behind veterans while the coaching staff evaluates whether he can become a long-term option.

The potential cost of a supplemental draft selection would likely be minimal compared to the upside of developing a young quarterback.

2. New Orleans Saints

The Saints continue to search for long-term certainty at quarterback. While Tyler Shough was the rookie of the year, he has major injury problems in his past, why not get a back-up?

Even if the team feels comfortable with its current depth chart, adding a developmental prospect like Sorsby would provide another option for the future. His athleticism and ability to create plays outside the pocket could fit well within a modern NFL offense.

For a franchise navigating a transition period, taking a chance on upside makes sense.

3. Cleveland Browns

The Browns have experienced significant instability at quarterback in recent years. I mean they have a ton of QB’s but why not add another?

While they have invested heavily in the position, finding affordable developmental talent should remain a priority. Sorsby would not need to play immediately and could benefit from a year or two of NFL coaching before being asked to compete for a larger role.

The Browns have little to lose by exploring another quarterback prospect with upside.

4. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks have consistently demonstrated a willingness to develop quarterbacks. They just won a Super Bowl, they do not have any major needs, why not gamble on him.

Seattle’s coaching staff has a strong reputation for maximizing talent, making the franchise an ideal landing spot for a player like Sorsby. With an established starter in place, the team could allow him to develop at his own pace while learning the professional game.

Few organizations offer a better environment for a young quarterback to grow.

5. Buffalo Bills

The Bills have Kyle Allen only behind Josh Allen. Why not take a young quarterback like Sorsby to learn behind the best quarterback in the NFL?

The Bills love to have a veteran like Kyle Allen to hold the clip board, but let’s face it, if JA17 goes down with an injury the Bills might end up with the first pick in the draft, because Kyle Allen is not a very good back-up QB.

Why not gamble on Sorsby, he would be a first round pick next year if this gambling situation didn’t come out.

Why Sorsby Is Worth the Gamble

Quarterbacks are the most valuable assets in professional sports, and teams should never stop searching for talent at the position.

Brendan Sorsby may not be viewed as a future superstar, but supplemental draft selections are about identifying value. His arm strength, athletic ability, and room for growth make him the type of prospect worth considering when the acquisition cost is relatively low.

For the Jets, Saints, Browns, Seahawks, and Bills, a small gamble on Sorsby could ultimately become one of the smartest moves they make this year.
