Martez Poynter emerged as one of the MAC’s most impactful defensive linemen in 2025 for the University of Toledo. A Second-Team All-MAC selection, he posted 43 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks, anchoring a Rockets defense that ranked second nationally in total defense at 254.3 yards allowed per game. Poynter consistently generated interior pressure while setting the tone at the line of scrimmage, occupying blockers and creating opportunities for teammates. His production, durability, and command of the front established him as a reliable every-down defender capable of affecting both the run and pass from multiple alignments along the defensive line.

Poynter’s game is defined by power, physicality, and versatility. With a reported 455-pound bench max, he has the upper-body strength to withstand double teams and shut down interior rushing lanes. His violent hands and leverage create instant disruption, and his lateral quickness allows him to penetrate gaps, finish in the backfield, and force negative plays and turnovers. His 2025 breakout only scratches the surface of his potential. Comfortable in even or odd fronts and effective whether shaded over a guard or aligned head-up, Poynter pairs scheme flexibility with pro-level physical traits, giving him significant upside as a disruptive interior presence at the next level.
