From California to Big Rapids Ferris State LB Isaiah Byars Story

Down, set, hut. It is something that is universal in this game called football. No matter where you go, you will hear the same cadence. For Ferris State Senior Linebacker Isaiah Byars the journey to Big Rapids started far from Michigan. Byars is from Elk Grove, California and played high school for the Wolfpack of Cosumnes Oaks High School. A Google search indicates that it is 2,000 plus miles away. That is a long trip, but for Byars it has become his “home” away from home.
While with Wolfpack, Byars was a hybrid player. He displayed numerous characteristics of an above average football player. He has continued to develop these characteristics during his collegiate career. After high school, Byars attended Sacramento City College where he was a force with the Panthers. Displaying the same skills he had in high school, Byars continue his development as a high IQ football player.
After playing with the Panthers, Byars found his way to Big Rapids, Michigan. The Bulldogs of Ferris State gave offered and he committed in 2023. The Bulldogs are proud members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and defending champions.
During the current season, he was named to the All-GLIAC First Team Defense. This is nothing new to anyone who has watched him play. And as always, Byers went above and beyond in the Bulldogs 49-17 over the Wolves of Newberry. He had 4 solo tackles, 4 assists, a half sack, and an interception. He and the Bulldogs now will battle the Harding Bison as they both head to McKinney (Texas) for the national title game next Saturday (Dec. 20) at 4 p.m. (ET).
