Pittman’s Pocket: NFL Preseason Opens with HBCU Legends on Display

The 2025-2026 NFL preseason kicked off last night, and along with the on-field action came a proud showcase of former HBCU standouts now making their mark in the league.
In Philadelphia, the Eagles edged out the Cincinnati Bengals in a high-scoring 34-27 matchup. Meanwhile, in Baltimore, the Ravens topped the Indianapolis Colts 24-16 in a game that featured two prominent HBCU products going head-to-head.
For the Colts, defensive end Isaiah Land (Florida A&M University) made his presence felt with one solo tackle and two assisted tackles. On the other sideline, Carson Vinson (offensive lineman, Alabama A&M University) helped anchor the Ravens’ offensive front, delivering a key block that sprung rookie running back Rasheen Ali for a big gain during a scoring drive.
Standing 6’6” and weighing 305 pounds, Vinson has already drawn praise from NFL analysts, who see him as a potential long-term fixture in the league.
The night wasn’t just about preseason football — it was a celebration of the HBCU pipeline to the NFL, proving once again that talent from Historically Black Colleges and Universities continues to thrive at the highest level of the sport.
