Auburn Linebacker DJ Barber Arrested on Felony Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

An Auburn University football player is facing serious legal trouble after being arrested on multiple drug-related charges during a traffic stop in Dadeville, Alabama.
D’Angelo “DJ” Barber, a redshirt freshman linebacker for the Auburn Tigers, was taken into custody alongside 19-year-old Marcell Brewster of Birmingham. The arrests occurred Monday morning after a Dadeville Police Department officer stopped a 2019 GMC Yukon XL for a traffic violation on Highway 280 around 9 a.m. CT.
According to a press release from the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force, officers conducted a search of the vehicle based on probable cause and uncovered a significant amount of illegal items. Seized during the stop were approximately 2.5 pounds of marijuana, THC vape cartridges, digital scales, marijuana packaging materials, a Glock 19 9mm handgun, and $1,897 in cash.
Barber now faces three criminal charges: trafficking in marijuana, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Under Alabama law, trafficking in marijuana is classified as a Class A felony—the most severe category—carrying a potential sentence of 10 to 99 years in prison. The possession of a controlled substance is a Class D felony, while the drug paraphernalia charge is a misdemeanor.
Both Barber and Brewster remain under investigation, and no further details regarding court proceedings have been released at this time.
Barber, a promising young talent from the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class, had been expected to compete for playing time this upcoming season. Auburn University has yet to comment on the incident.
