New Jersey Star High School Football Player Shot and Killed
Chrystofer Whyte, an 18-year-old recent graduate of Woodbridge High School, was fatally shot on the evening of June 12 at Pier Village in Long Branch, just as a free oldies concert on the beach was coming to a close.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office has described the shooting as an “isolated incident,” though no arrests have been made and no motive has been announced.
Whyte, a North Brunswick resident, is being remembered as a vibrant young man full of energy and heart. Friends and family described him as a “beautiful soul” whose positive spirit left a lasting impact.
His former football coach reflected on Whyte’s strong character, calling him a respectful and hardworking athlete who always brought energy and enthusiasm to the team.
In the wake of his death, longtime friend Jaiden Roche of Woodbridge launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Whyte’s family cover funeral expenses. The campaign has quickly drawn support from the community, as people rally to honor Whyte’s memory and support his loved ones during this difficult time.
Authorities continue to investigate the shooting, which occurred near the end of a well-attended public event. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
