Dallas Cowboys Trade for WR George Pickens
The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded their former WR1 to the Dallas Cowboys. Full trade details; Dallas will receive the WR and a 2027 6th round pick, whilst the Steelers receive a 2026 3rd round pick and 2027 5th round pick.
The impact of this trade is significant for both sides. Dallas has been trying to find a true WR2 for over a year, even trading a 4th round pick for another Ole Miss receiver, Jonathan Mingo. Pickens is a proven jump ball receiver with shifty moves after the catch. Pittsburgh just paid a 28 year old DK Metcalf. Most people were concerned about the long term stability of that receiver room, with Pickens and Metcalf having similar play styles and short fuses.
Why is this trade bad for Pittsburgh? The Steelers have multiple key pieces. Minkah Fitzpatrick, TJ Watt, George Pickens, Pat Freiermuth, and a few other stars are coming to the end of their primes. Pittsburgh did not select a QB in the first 5 rounds of the NFL Draft and are still yet to sign Aaron Rodgers. A 3rd round pick in next years draft will not help them this year, and this seems to signal to their star players they don’t care to win now. Roman Wilson, a slot receiver who was hurt all of 2024, is now the biggest threat to opposing defenses outside of Metcalf. I don’t like this trade for Pittsburgh, and I think Dallas made the correct call in trading for the former 1000 yard receiver.
