The San Marcos community in Texas is grieving tonight after a heartbreaking loss of one of its own. Andrew Farias, a beloved high school football player who was fatally shot early Sunday morning at a graduation party.

According to state officials, the incident occurred during a celebration hosted by graduating San Marcos High School seniors. At some point during the gathering, an unknown individual opened fire, tragically claiming the life of the young athlete.

Texas House of Representatives, State Rep. Erin Zwiener, who represents parts of Hays County, identified the victim as Andrew Farias. In an emotional address to her fellow lawmakers, Zwiener honored the teen’s memory and requested a moment of silence.

“Andrew was part of a tight-knit family. He was a mentor to his younger siblings and his younger cousins,” said Zwiener. “He played for the San Marcos High School Rattlers football team and he was scheduled to start at Texas State University in August, where he hoped to pursue a degree in construction engineering.”

The San Marcos Rattler Football Facebook page also paid tribute to Farias, sharing a photo of him in uniform alongside a touching message: “In loving memory of Andrew Farias. Forever part of our team. The game may end, but legends live on.”

As authorities continue to investigate the shooting and search for those responsible, the community remains united in sorrow and remembrance of a young life taken too soon.

Farias’ memory lives on in the hearts of his teammates, classmates, and the countless lives he touched during his 18 years.
