Former College Football Player Kavan Markwood Identified as Fan Who Fell at Pirates Game

A tragic incident unfolded at PNC Park on Wednesday evening when a fan fell over the 21-foot-high right field wall—familiarly known as the “Clemente Wall”—during a game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs.
The individual has been identified as 20-year-old Kavan Markwood, a former linebacker for Wheeling University. Witnesses reported that Markwood, who appeared shirtless at the time of the fall, crashed onto the field from atop the wall and was immediately assisted by emergency personnel. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Pittsburgh Police are investigating the fall and currently believe it to be accidental in nature.
Markwood is a well-known figure in his community. A graduate of South Allegheny High School, he was celebrated for his work ethic and perseverance both on and off the football field.
