Reactions to Day 1 of the NFL Draft

Day 1 of the NFL Draft has wrapped up, and here are my thoughts on some of tonight’s selections.
FAVORITE PICK:
Tyler Warren-TE-Penn State (#14 to Colts)
The Indianapolis Colts addressed their primary draft need without sacrificing any future assets, as Tyler Warren fell into their lap. His versatility and run-blocking prowess will play a vital role for the Colts as they face a pivotal year under GM Chris Ballard, HC Shane Steichen, and QB Anthony Richardson.
LEAST FAVORITE PICK:
James Pearce-EDGE-Tennessee (#26 to Atlanta)
I don’t have an issue with the player-to-team fit—Pearce offers significant upside in the Falcons’ pass rush game. However, I’m surprised they traded next year’s first-round pick for a prospect who entered the draft with numerous concerns.
SURPRISING PICK:
Travis Hunter-WR/CB-Colorado (#2 to Jacksonville)
Jacksonville invested significant draft capital to trade up for Travis Hunter with the potential to make a substantial impact in the league. However, it’s surprising how much GM James Gladstone was willing to give up, including the No. 36 pick and a 2026 first-round selection. In his first draft as the Jaguars’ general manager, Gladstone clearly aimed to make a bold statement—and he certainly achieved that with the selection of Hunter.
