Pittman’s Pocket : Hula Bowl HBCU Alumni James Burgess received Camp Invite

Exciting news! Former Alabama State defensive back and Aeneas Williams Award winner, James Burgess Jr., has received a camp invite from the San Francisco 49ers. Standing at 6’3″ and 186 pounds, this talented cornerback is ready to make his mark. With a playing style reminiscent of Richard Sherman, Burgess is eager to get acclimated and showcase his skills at the next level.
James Burgess Jr. is a tall, physical cornerback with a combination of length, athleticism, and ball skills that make him an intriguing NFL prospect. His frame allows him to match up well against taller, more physical wide receivers, while his agility and quickness help him stay competitive against faster, shifty route runners.
Strengths:
- Size & Length: At 6’3″, Burgess presents a rare blend of size and mobility that makes him difficult to beat both in coverage and in jump-ball situations.
- Football IQ: Burgess displays excellent awareness in zone coverage, reading the quarterback’s eyes and reacting quickly to the ball.
- Physicality: Shows strong ability in press-man coverage, using his size to disrupt wide receivers at the line of scrimmage.
- Ball Skills: Has a knack for making plays on the ball, with solid hands and the ability to track and intercept passes.
- Versatility: Capable of playing in multiple defensive schemes, including man and zone, and can handle both outside and inside corner duties.
Burgess has the tools to be a starting cornerback in the NFL, especially with his size and ball skills. He is a project with high upside, and his camp invite from the San Francisco 49ers is an excellent opportunity to showcase his abilities at the next level.
