BACKGROUND: Omarion Hampton grew up in Clayton, North Carolina and signed with North Carolina out of high school as a 4 star running back. He was a 2 time second-team All American running back and 2 time finalist for the Doak Walker award. In his career with the Tar Heels, he carried the ball 622 times for 3565 yards and 36 rushing touchdowns, while also contributing in the receiving game catching 73 catches for 635 yards and 4 receiving touchdowns.

STRENGTHS: Hampton has good physique for the position, which results in him breaking many tackles and gaining extra yards. He showcases solid burst, and has good contact balance when running with the ball. He is a solid pass blocker, picking up free rushers when he is pass blocking and chipping defensive ends to give his quarterback more time. His 40 yard dash at the combine (4.46 seconds) shows that he has solid speed for the position. He has improved his pass catching ability, becoming a reliable weapon on screens and swing routes.

WEAKNESSES: Hampton is a one-cut runner so developing that part of his game will help him going against NFL defenses. His vision is slow, which limits him not see holes become open. While he is a willing pass blocker, he can work on his technique since he lunges at times.

SUMMARY: Omarion Hampton has solidified himself as RB2 in this draft behind Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty. Throughout the draft process, Hampton has solidified himself as a first round running back who can help teams in both the run and pass game. If he does slip out of the first round, teams will pounce trying to get him early on Day 2.

Some team fits for Omarion Hampton are:

Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys added Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency but they still need to upgrade the running back room. Hampton offers Brian Schottenheimer a weapon to utilize in the running game since Schottenheimer wants to run the ball more.

Los Angeles Chargers: Jim Harbaugh always has a tough running game identity with his teams, and Hampton can give the Chargers a nice 1-2 punch to go along with Najee Harris.

Denver Broncos: Sean Payton said he wants to upgrade certain positions for his offense and Hampton fits the bill to upgrade the running game. A true 3 down back who can be an asset in the passing game, Hampton can give Bo Nix a running back to develop with for years.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Najee Harris left the Steelers, and Arthur Smith can get a true 3 down back to utilize in his offense. Whoever is playing QB for the Steelers can benefit from a good running back combo of Jaylen Warren and Omarion Hampton.
