Biggest Winners after Day One of Free Agency

The first day of NFL Free Agency is always full of excitement, surprises, and a flurry of moves that can reshape the landscape of the league. Teams looking to fill key gaps, add depth, or make a splash for the future all take part in the chaos, and 2025 was no exception. From blockbuster signings to savvy acquisitions, some teams came out of the gates stronger than others. In this article, we’ll break down the biggest winners after day one of free agency, highlighting the moves that will have the most significant impact on the upcoming season.
Let’s take a look at Five Teams that helped themselves after day one of Free Agency:
Chicago Bears
The Bears did everything they could to solidify their offensive and defensive line. I think they hit a homerun. They signed Drew Dalman the former Falcons starting center after adding Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson before the start of free agency. The move I love the most is the Bears jumped all over Grady Jarrett who was released by the Falcons. Jarrett is a game changer on the defensive line. The Bears were also able to sign Dayo Odeyingbo formerly off the Colts who has a knack of getting after the quarterback. I think the Bears did a great job after day one.
Denver Broncos
Broncos added some much needed help on the defense. They added both Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga from the 49ers. The Broncos who were surprisingly good last season under Sean Payton just gained two leaders on offense. They were able to keep DJ Jones and Matt Peart helping both sides of the lines. The best part was Sean Payton had Evan Engram in for a visit. The Broncos could use a security blanket for Bo Nix. If they can add him this would be a huge off-season for Denver.
Indianapolis Colts
Colts had a quiet day but I think it was a huge day for them. They added depth in their secondary by signing Cam Byrum and Charvarius Ward. The Colts had trouble giving up big plays last season and by adding two stars in the secondary as well as re-signing WR Ashton Dulin and OL Braden Smith was a huge day. The Colts had a great day!
New England Patriots
Patriots had the most money and they acted like they had it. They spent millions of dollars the first day of free agency and they added some solid pieces. The Patriots signed LB Robert Spillane, CB Carlton Davis, OT Morgan Moses, DT Milton Williams, DT Khyiris Tonga, QB Josh Dobbs and WR Mack Hollins. The Patriots signed all gritty players who will work their tails off. Mack Hollins was a hard player to lose as a Bills fan. I loved his ability to do everything asked of him. Milton Williams and Carlton Davis were the two best players in that class, and it will help that already tough defense.
Washington Commanders
Commanders signed DT Javon Kinlaw to a huge deal worth 45 million dollars to replace Jonathan Allen, but the biggest move was them swinging a trade for a young star left tackle in Laremy Tunsil. The Commanders focused on protecting Jayden Daniels and they did a great job by doing so. They gave up a 3rd, 2nd and fourth for Tunsil and a 4th. I like this move and let’s not forget the Commanders have Michael Gallup in a for a workout.
