Pittman’s Pocket: Revolutionizing HBCU Scouting and Recruiting | A Vision for the Future

For years, I’ve been focused on improving the depth of HBCU scouting and recruiting here at Draft Diamonds. We’ve already seen some remarkable changes, such as HBCU juniors now being able to enter the NFL Draft, thanks to the growing recognition of HBCU talent.
However, there’s still more work to be done. I envision a future where a program like my Pittman’s Pocket HBCU True Freshman All-American selection team becomes a reality. The concept would involve these standout players participating in a 7-on-7 combine against FBS All-American players from Power 4-8 schools. This would provide a platform for scouts to expand their prospect pools, not just for FBS players, but for HBCU players as well.
Six HBCU prospects at the NFL Combine is simply not enough, and one invite is far from adequate. It’s time to break down the barriers and create an expanded and fairer opportunity for these athletes to showcase their skills.
In time, I believe this concept will help address the ethical challenges the NFL faces in improving its relationship with HBCU football, and ultimately, open up greater opportunities for HBCU athletes in the future.
