Why are people sleeping on Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka?

I am not sure why people are sleeping on Emeka Egbuka. The Ohio State wide receiver is one of the best players in the 2025 NFL Draft. I feel he is a first-round talent, but when reviewing Mock Drafts from draftniks, many have him falling to round 2. I broke down his film and I was really impressed, he does a lot of things right, and I figured I would post my top five favorite things Egbuka does on the field.

Egbuka is a 6’1 wide receiver that weighs 205 pounds. He has 24 career touchdowns and hauled in 10 last year at Ohio State. He averaged 12.5 yards per reception and yesterday he had a pretty damn good pro day. Egbuka possesses a refined ability to manipulate space through subtle, well-timed movements that consistently leave defenders off balance. Every slight adjustment is calculated to mislead and outmaneuver opponents, showcasing a level of precision that elevates his role as a receiver.

The Top Five Reasons I feel he is a Top Wide Out:

Route Running

Emeka Egbuka is known for his polished and crisp route running, which allows him to create separation from defenders consistently. He can change direction quickly and seamlessly, making it difficult for cornerbacks to predict his movements. His ability to run a variety of routes—whether it’s a quick slant, deep post, or comeback—gives him a versatile skill set that translates well to the NFL.

Football Awareness

Egbuka has a high football IQ and understands how to leverage, using his body and positioning to win contested situations. He’s also adept at reading defenses, knowing where the soft spots are in zone coverage, and using that knowledge to make adjustments on the fly. This awareness allows him to adjust his route depending on the coverage, which is a critical skill at the next level.

Competitive Edge

Playing at Ohio State, Egbuka has faced some of the best defenses in college football, and he’s consistently delivered against top competition. This experience has prepared him for the NFL, where he’ll face elite cornerbacks and defensive schemes every week. His ability to perform in big games shows that he’s ready for the bright lights of the NFL.

Great Hands

Egbuka has natural hands and excellent ball tracking skills. He’s able to make difficult catches in tight coverage and has a reliable catch radius. Whether it’s a jump ball in the red zone or a quick throw in traffic, he has the ability to adjust to the ball and make the catch with consistency. His hands are rarely a concern, which is a huge asset for any receiver.

A Complete Package

Emeka Egbuka is a complete wide receiver with elite route-running ability, great hands, and explosive after-the-catch ability. His football IQ, physical toughness, and high production in one of college football’s most competitive programs make him one of the top wide receivers in the 2025 NFL Draft.
